We have Orchards - more to come
Our tree planting project is off to a great start. We began in St. Mary's School on Wednesday 29th and planted apple, pear and plumb trees - some in the front playground and some in the back playground beside the apple trees that were there. Thank you to Richard Hogan, Damian Duffy and Paddy Dempsey who planted the trees for us. The school children came to chat to us on their break and have promised to pick and eat the fruit when is it ready to harvest. We know a lot of the children grow food at home and we hope that having their own school orchard will increase their interest in the idea of growing and eating their own fresh food. Thank you to Mr. Ó Fearghail and all the staff for their support and interest in being part of our Collinstown Orchard's project.
Friday 31st saw more trees being planted, this time with thanks to the Men's Shed. Joe Potter, Gene O'Donnell Johnny Fitzpatrick and Bernard Devine planted apple and plumb trees on the green area outside the School and Church. This space will hopefully be one where everyone in the community can pick some fruit. We would love to see people coming together and harvesting the fruit every summer and autumn. Perhaps people will pick it to eat, or to bake with, maybe even to share with neighbours and friends. These fruit trees belong to Collinstown and everyone here. Thank you to Fr. Patrick for allowing us to plant these trees and for your support for the project.
