Tidy Towns Willow Workshops - A Great Success
Our Willow Workshops were a great success. Collinstown Tidy Towns invited Lynn Kirkham of The Green Mantle to Collinstown Hall to run Willow Workshops this weekend. The workshops were thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended, with each of the 22 attendees bringing home a garden structure that they made themselves. We learned about the different methods for weaving and knotting the willow and got to practice these methods while making our garden structure. Both groups helped with planted a living willow screen beside the playground - the willow will take root, we will weave it as it grows and this will quickly grow to a full screen.
Willow is a very sustainable material for use in the garden for both screens and structures. Our aim, when organising this workshop, was to bring the skills for working with willow to people here so that we can create willow structures in our own gardens and use them in the village where needed.
