Boyo Diversity

In May 2018 Collinstown Tidy Towns introduced 'Boyo Diversity' to all - a project we brought to St. Mary's NS with the support of the Westmeath County Council Local Agenda 21 Partnership Fund.

Local Artist Teresa Doyle worked with the 3rd and 4th class pupils of Collinstown school and their teacher Miss Ruth Mcguinn. 'Boyo Diversity' is inspired by the pupils designs and made from fabrics brought in for recycling. The project centered around "noticing nature" - one of 'Boyo's' favourite pastimes - the pupils were asked to notice nature from the minute they opened their curtains and all the way to school, where they were also brought on nature walks by their teacher.

All this "noticing" has been noted down by the pupils and two lovely books have been created, as well as lots of lovely drawings and one rather large and interesting doll - young 'Boyo Diversity'.

We would like to thank Teresa Doyle, Miss Mcguinn and all the pupils in 3rd and 4th class along with their parents who worked hard to complete this project.

Fast forward to March 2019 and Tidy Towns have sown seeds for a small wild flower patch beside the recycling bins in front of Collinstown School. We hope Boyo approves of our efforts to introduce more biodiversity into the area and maybe he will join us to help identify the flowers that hopefully start growing in the coming weeks and months.
