Collinstown Biodiversity Project Complete

We had a lovely gathering last Friday evening 12th May to celebrate the completion of the Biodiversity Project, an project funded by the Community Foundation Ireland. The Collinstown Tidy Towns have been working with ecologist Heather Bothwell in carrying out the project over the past year. The main aim of the grant was to do a survey of the area, and the development of a report and action plan, which is now available for all to see on the Collinstown website.

As part of the fund allocated we decided to create a map to display the rich biodiversity in the village. It is now located beside the little library at Day Break shop. Enjoy learning and discovering all the various projects in the village (as Gaeilge freisin !) ...native trees, plants and animals… as our environment and our health and well-being are so interconnected it is important to appreciate and see all that is around us.

Thanks to all who came out to celebrate the launch of the map - a collaborative effort between the Tidy Towns, Men's Shed and local artist John Corrigan. The sun shone for us as we gathered afterwards to enjoy Collinstowns Markets fine local produce.

Please do have a look through the report, there may be suggestions or tips you could use in your own garden , in your housing estate or area. If you would like to get involved or suggest ideas related to biodiversity get in touch with the Collinstown Tidy Town group!
