Best Topical Entry in North Westmeath St. Patrick's Day Parade
Collinstown Action Group were delighted to be among the Prize Winners at The St Patrick's Day Parade Presentation in Hotel Castlepollard yesterday, Sunday April 7th. We are the proud winners of Most Topical entry. The theme for the parade was Ireland's Greener Environment Future.
Our entry "Every Community Need's It's People's Energy" showed the projects that we have been working on, including the showcasing work we are doing from a sustainability and environmental front. Virginia Jennings lead the way. We had our Age Friendly Village sign carried by Chrissie Murtagh - Collinstown aims to be the first Age Friendly Village in Westmeath. Mary Duffy carried the sign for Collinstown.ie - this new website, which was launched at the parade and is our new tool promoting communication in the village. Anne Marie Nash carried Boyo Diversity, Collinstown's Biodiversity mascot, created by Artist Teresa Doyle and pupils in St. Mary's NS with the support of Tidy Towns and Westmeath County Council. Carmel Murray carried Collinstown's One Small Change - this is the campaign that Collinstown Action Group and Collinstown Tidy Towns are running encouraging people and local businesses, to make small changes towards sustainability and in particular towards reducing the use of singe use disposable plastics. Walking beside Carmel was Joe McNally our chairman, who carried the sign for Collinstown's Little Free Library which will be coming to the village very soon. Teresa Doyle carried the sign for "Apron Stories" which is an Age Friendly event taking place on Wednesday 26th June, as part of the Eclectic Festival, in conjunction with North Westmeath Creative Tourism.
